Fiscal Year Comes To An End

The 2010 year is coming to an end for the GPTC. This was a very successful year for the GPTC. Early in the year, Mike Stone and Anni Miller headed up a High School Coaches Clinic which saw over 25 area high school coaches take part in. These coaches were given tips and strategies on how to be better coaches both on and off the court. Some of the best coaches in the area were there to help run the clinic including Mike and Anni.
Spring and Summer saw the GPTC working hard at preparing for the 112th Annual GPTC/Nike Tennis Championships of Oregon. This tournament saw a significant increase in the number of entries, especially on the NTRP side. There are a lot of volunteers who helped pull off this tounament, but a big thanks goes out to Mt. Park Racquet Club, Tualatin Hills Tennis Center, and the West Hills Racquet Club for allowing us to hold the tournament there. The Tournament Directors included Mike Stone, Dana Barnes, and Brian Leahy. They had a tremendous amount of help with this tournament so once again, a big thanks to all the volunteers, spectators, and players.
The GPTC held it's Second Annual Silent Auction during the tournament. Some of the proceeds went to help 'T' is for Tennis, a program overseen by the GPTC that helps introduce lifeskills through tennis to Portland area Head Start kids. This year, the Silent Auction raised over $5,000, more than double what was raised in 2009. Thanks to all the people who bid on the items and helped 'T' is for Tennis be able to purchase much needed equipment.
The Board will be saying good-bye to three members as their terms expire. Mike Stone, Karey Welling, and Margaret Anderson will be leaving the Board. The Board will elect new Board Members at their Annual Meeting on Sunday, October 17.
